Description Otrar is a unique archaeological site in Kazakhstan, one of the most ancient cities in Central Asia, and a major trade, craft, and cultural center on the Great Silk Road, located in the Syr Darya River valley. The city was known as an important center of caravan trade, science, and education—the birthplace of the philosopher Abu Nasr al-Farabi. The coin depicts a stylized shield, with an image of a coin from the ancient city of Otrar at its center. Above the coin are the city’s fortress gates, walls, and towers. The coin is made of 925 sterling silver using gold plating. It weighs 24 grams, has a diameter of 37 mm, is proof-quality, and has a face value of 1,000 tenge. A mintage is 2,000 (two thousand) pieces. The coin comes in capsule with certificate of authencity (COA) and in original box.
